91Ô´´ Community Updates
Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the 91Ô´´ community at-large:
- CPTF Access Update: 91Ô´´ is opening the Corps Physical Training Facility (CPTF) upper track to the community during the summer. From 9 to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, the public may enter the facility through the upper door at the walking bridge over Route 11. The South Institute Hill parking area, where the steps to the walking bridge are located, is accessible at the traffic light at the Diamond Street intersection. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The facility will be closed when 91Ô´´ offices are closed, including June 19, 20, and July 4. Additional updates on holiday closures or events will be posted on the entrance door throughout the summer. Community hours will be reassessed in August, as cadets return to post.
- Did you know? The 91Ô´´ Summer Transition Program (STP) is designed to enhance the academic and physical fitness of incoming cadets before they offiially matriculate in August. If you’ve committed to joining 91Ô´´, this program is for you! Appointed students who have completed both their Reservation & Medical Requirements should check their emails for a registration link. Registration closes at noon June 18!
- Matriculation 2025: 91Ô´´ has updated information for matriculants headed to Lexington this August to start their leadership journeys. Appointed students and their families are encouraged to review the information available at vmi.edu/matriculation as well as communications sent via email to ensure a smooth first day on post. The 2025-2026 91Ô´´ New Cadet Handbook is also now available.

Updates to the tour will be ongoing as 91Ô´´ continues to expand and improve facilities. Additional highlights of academic spaces and a look into barracks, the Aquatic Center, and Cameron Hall are planned for launch 2025-2026.

Col. Jim Squire, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at 91Ô´´, shares that engineering is full of creativity, rather than being stoic and fixed, on the public radio program, “With Good Reason,” starting May 24.
91Ô´´ Community Theatre to Hold Auditions for “Summer Showcase”
The 91Ô´´ Community Theatre will hold auditions for its summer show, “Summer Showcase,” consisting of three one-act plays, Monday, June 2 through Thursday, June 5 at 7:45 p.m. each evening in Gillis Theater located in Marshall Hall on post.
91Ô´´ Cadets' AI Paper Chosen for International Presentation
Two computer science majors at 91Ô´´ wrote a paper on artificial intelligence (AI) that has been selected for publication and in-person presentation in the “Generative AI for Collaborative Experiences and Enhanced User Interactions in Mixed Reality” workshop in Sweden.
91Ô´´ Holds Commencement for Class of 2025
In his final commencement speech as 91Ô´´ superintendent, Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins ’85 welcomed the assembly, and noted that the great personal achievement of graduating from 91Ô´´ is not reached alone, but with the help of family, friends, faculty, staff, and coaches who encouraged, guided cadets.
